Within the last week several vehicles and a garage were robbed in our neighborhood.  The robbers were apprehended due to an alert resident.  (for full details see the 7-26-11 Racine Journal Times article).  This just emphasizes the need for a good “Neighborhood Watch” program.   If you would like to be a participant contact Mr. Chris Boscher 886-4676.

ROLLING FIELDS ASSOCIATION – TREE CAMPAIGN
Rolling Fields has been in existence for over five years and there has been a wide range of landscaping/tree planting efforts taken across residents in the neighborhood.  In an effort to enhance the appearance of the neighborhood, the Rolling Fields Association is encouraging many residents to begin planting trees or increase the number trees they currently have.   Planting trees increases property value, promotes privacy, plus decreases noise and summer cooling costs for you.

To encourage tree planting efforts, the Rolling Fields Association has contacted a local nursery and coordinated a “Tree Campaign”.  During the month of July, The Garden of Eder Nursery will offer the following discounts on all shade trees for Rolling Fields residents:
10% off first tree purchased
15% off second tree purchased
20% off third tree purchased

These discounts could add up to substantial savings on a wide variety of shade trees.  Trees need to be purchased during the month of July, (not necessarily delivered or planted) to be eligible for the discounts.  If interested in this great opportunity, please take this letter with you when visiting Eder as proof of residency.

Other, less expensive options include purchasing trees at Steins, Menards, Home Depot, etc. and planting them yourself.  With a reasonable level of investment and effort, this is great a way to get started or increase the number of trees on your property.

Let’s all do our part to make Rolling Fields look beautiful.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE
A neighbor on Wynbrook Ct. wants to alert everyone to a suspicious car in the neighborhood. In the morning on Thursday, 5-20-10 , a small black sedan with Wisconsin license plate number 299HRR or 299HPR was observed acting suspiciously, driving in and out of driveways on Wynbrook Ct. and sometimes
pausing in them for a few minutes. When the occupant of the car saw that they were being observed they left. The neighbor then left for and errand, but came back for a forgotten item. When the neighbor returned the car had also returned and resumed it's behavior. When the occupant of the car saw the neighbor it quickly drove off again. The neighbor, quite appropriately, notified the Police Department. Don't hesitate to notify the police department if you observe suspicious activity, either Mt. Pleasant or Caledonia relative to your jurisdiction. The police departments want you to do so!

THEFTS
We want to caution you to lock your cars if you leave them in your driveway for any period of time.   In the last two years we have had five auto break-ins. Most recently, there was a break-in to a vehicle in a driveway on Rolling Fields Drive in April, 2010. Also one on the North end of our subdivision and, a few months ago, one on the South end. Obviously, if you see any suspicious behavior call the Mt. Pleasant or Caledonia police department.

YARD MAINTENANCE
You may not be aware that the "storm drains", the ones that have sewer grates in our curb and gutter, drain into the retention basins. Anything that goes into those drains ends up in the sewer of the retention basins. The storm sewer maintenance and the basin maintenance is the responsibility of the residents of the subdivision.

Lately it has been noted that many residents are leaving their grass clippings in the gutters. The clippings then drain into the sewers and, perhaps, the retention basins. At some point in time when the flows become too impeded and the basins become too sludge-filled the sewers will need to be cleaned of the accumulated debris and the basins dredged. This is by the rule of the municipalities, both Mt. Pleasant and Caledonia. We will need to pay for those costs... and they are not inexpensive. We already have to deal with treatment of the excessive algae formation in the basins because of drainage of fertilizer. Let's not compound the cost problem by adding lawn clipping pollution.

The problem has been more noticeable recently, probably due to the surge of rainfall.

YOU CAN HELP to hold off these costs by sweeping or blowing your clippings out of the gutter and, if applicable telling your lawn service to remove them from the gutter.*

Thank you for your consideration
